Dear Parents and Children of Cahir N.S.,
I am very honoured, excited and privileged to be joining Cahir National School as new your new Principal. I’m originally from Camp in West Kerry. Having graduated from Mary Immaculate College in 2007, I spent the first 10 years of my teaching career in Co Laois. I worked as a Mainstream and Resource Teacher in Ballyfin N.S., before becoming Principal of Tobar an Léinn National School outside Abbeyleix in 2014.
In 2017, I relocated back to West Kerry and became Principal of Castlegregory Mixed National School. I have taught in a range of multi-grade classes and Special Needs settings since then. Last year, I relocated to the Glenflesk Parish and I now look forward to my new role in Cahir N.S.
This will be third school as principal and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue a leadership role at such a beautiful and welcoming school where there is such a positive attitude to learning by children, parents and teachers. I look forward to continuing the good work of Ms Hanley along with our dedicated staff.
I look forward to learning more about you all as we work together to continue providing a positive, engaging and safe learning environment for all students. I have a keen interest in drama, debating, science and technology in education as well as continuing the school’s fine traditions in music and sport.
As you are aware the roadmap to returning to school is now in place and preparations are underway to ensure a safe return for both staff and students. The staff and board of management are currently in the process of drafting on a covid response plan, which we hope to communicate to parents next week.
I strongly believe in open communication and a home and school connection. As you will appreciate, I am currently in the process of trying to draft a covid response plan in Castlegregory School as well as assisting the staff and Board of Management of Cahir National School. Please feel free to contact me when I start in September.
Finally; I have attached to class allocations for 2020-2021 for your attention. As you are aware Ms O Sullivan is currently on maternity leave and a replacement will be appointed in the coming days.
